I think I am officially in the 2nd trimester now. Wednesday will be 14 weeks, and at my first OB appointment last Thursday, she said, "You're just a normal pregnant woman now."
Inspite of all this IF
Inspite of all this IVF
Inspite of all these surprises
I got to hear the baby's heartbeat, but I was expecting an US. The doctor (who I love and has been my OB for 3 years) runs a solo practice, and she does not have a fancy schmancy office. In fact, she has 4 chairs in the waiting room. Yup. No big practicing clinic here, and that has both good and bad. The good is that I have never waited for an appointment. If I am scheduled at 3:00, I get in a 3:00. She is also 100 percent going to be the one delivering the bebe, which is comforting to know that she is my one and only.
The downsides of this is that she does not have all the crazy new technology that other docs have. For my 18 week US, I will go see a MFM who will do the body scan, not her. Also, she does not allow water births, which was something I really wanted to do. She is all for the au natural, but there are limits. When I got home from the appointment, I google searched local docs who are water birth friendly, and they all have the crazy large many doctor practicing office, and the message boards postings complained about how long they always have to wait to be seen. My idea of a water birth can take a back seat for this baby. I hate waiting rooms!!!
So basically, I go see her again in 4 weeks. 4 weeks! She told me that I have to wean myself from ultrasounds now that I am "normal." I did get to hear the hearbeat on the doppler, and now I think I might go out and buy a doppler for home. I dunno.
So, yeah. That's all. I guess this is what it must be like to be a normal fertile, where babymaking and all that jazz is just a regular thing. I am going to have to wean myself from myself and just learn to chill.
We started telling people, and people are excited. It has mostly been close friends and family. I still can't quite figure out how to tell others. This whole experience with IF and IVF has been such a private struggle, it seems fitting that the pregnancy be the same, too. I am afraid to tell people. Is that weird? I was a closer IFer; does that mean I will be a closet pregger?
Still throwing up in the morning, although it isn't the deep hurl anymore. It's more of a surface puke, like top of the stomach. For the most part, all my vomiting sessions have been pretty awful. I puke this enormous amount of blah and I am even peeing my pants when I do. I know, TMI, but nobody ever said I'd pee myself when I puke from morning sickness. Someone, please tell me that has happened to you? I confided in a friend and she muttered something about my kegels. Ahem, my kegels are strong, so that's not it. Well, at least that seems to have stopped.
Alrighty then. This post is sufficiently long enough.

Yikes, peeing when you puke? Sorry!
So glad you're in the 2nd tri! Congrats!
I had a home doppler and loved it and used it every day until I could feel the baby move every day. I only paid about $30 and it worked just fine, didn't need an expensive one!
Hope the puking completely clears up soon!!
The doppler saved my sanity. I even used it all the way in the third trimester. I got one off eBay for $75ish-Sonoline B. Sorry you can't have the water birth you wanted. I don't know if there's such thing as a "normal" pregnant woman after IF. I was constantly worried, but I guess maybe that is "normal", it seems to me there are tons of carefree preggos who don't worry at all. Congrats on second trimester!!
Welcome to the glorious second trimester! It did take some getting used to not seeing baby on u/s but eventually hearing was just as comforting:)
Congratulations on making it to the second trimester!! I know it's been a long road. I think I'm also facing a future of few ultrasounds and only doppler at the OB's office (if my pregnancy continues) and my office has 4 or 5 docs (just no decent ultrasound machine apparently.) Oh well. And I totally hear you about wanting to be private about your pregnancy. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Obviously, at some point, it will be hard to hide, but why *should* you have to run around telling everybody? I think it's up to you.
Congratulations on second trimester - how exciting!
Im in my second trimester, too. My vomiting was so forceful that I actually pooped myself once... at work... at the office Christmas party. Totally TMI, but Im only saying to try to comfort you. I never told anyone that... So, lucky that it has never happened to your friend, but Im pretty sure that everyone is different. The vomiting has been lighter lately (Im 15 weeks and 5 days) but I almost peed myself again on Saturday morning.
Yeah it is hard going from constant monitoring to an appointment every four weeks! My last us was at 7 weeks with the fertility clinic and I am almost 16 weeks now. Next will be at 19 weeks. I do believe that less intervention is best so I just trust that everything is going well since I keep on expanding! Congrats on being into the 2nd trimester!
Congrats on the 2nd trimester!!! I am really happy for you to be here. I think you are taking a very healthy attitude to this pregnancy - your own mental health during appointments, etc., is really important so sticking with your OB sounds good!
Also, I just wanted to commiserate with you about the peeing when puking. Luckily that wasn't the case for me during pregnancy since I was spared the MS. However, I do admit that I had that pleasure once or twice during my more serious party days... ah, to be young...
Yeah for getting back to feeling overall good about everything and being able to see your nice OB!
Hopefully the puking will pass soon!

I was wondering, if you would mind contacting me through email at erikajune26 at gmail. I would appreciate it. Thanks!
Surface puke is a lol. Still lol as I type it. Hang in there.
Pure magnificence! Welcome to the second trimester. What a milestone!
And to think, we loved you before you were normal...
Hi Vegas Dear!
Sorry about all those old posts showing up in your reader and confusing you! I finally figured out how to import my old blog to combine with my new one, so there's the explanation.
Yay, we're in second trimester! I hope yours is wonderful. I feel tons better.
LOL I peed when I sneezed and started gagging at the same time the other day, so you are not the only one!
I'm glad you really like your OB, I am still working out my comfort level, but I've hired a doula which is very helpful so far.
Huge congratulations on 2nd tri!!!
