Dear Doc, shut the hell up

Had another weekly appointment today. I am 37 weeks, and still only 1cm. So, doc starts discussing the probability that the baby won't drop and I'll be looking at a c-section. HUH WTF? I'm 37 weeks. Why is she being so quick to cut me open?

The baby is head down. I haven't had an ultrasound since 18 weeks. My BP is 110/60. I've only gained 25 pounds. My urine is fine.

My appointment was at 9:15 this morning, and I've been a fuming pissy beyotch the whole day. I contacted my acupuncturist and she is taking me next Tuesday to do some work on me until the end.

Help! Can I change doctors this late? I know I am going to have to talk to her, maybe tomorrow or next week, and reiterate my wishes for a natual birth UNLESS there is some medical reason that makes it necessary for either me or the baby.

I don't like this.

That is really sucky! The good news is that the dr doesn't even show up until it is time to catch the baby. Hopefully the nurses will support you with your natural plans.

I'm actually sitting here in utter confusion though as to why the doc would even go there at 37 weeks though.... ? ... ! (?)

WHAT???? Dude, you better tell her that you do NOT want a c-section unless medically necessary at the time of labor.

Also, just an FYI, both my doctor and my birth-prep instructor said that the AMA guidelines state that, unless there's an emergency, you can't schedule anything before 39w anyway. So much can change in the next 2 weeks.

Sounds like you're healthy and all is well, hopefully your doctor was just jumping the gun. Maybe a lot of patients are asking for scheduled c-sections. Breathe and tell her that you are NOT one of those patients.

(((((Hugs)))))) Hang in there, chica.

WTF??? That makes zero sense to me. You have FIVE WEEKS to go before you enter the "danger zone". She shouldn't even be discussing this with you! Is your doc a big advocate of c-sections?

Hopefully the acupuncturist can get things moving and this whole c-section business will never be brought up again.

That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. You should probably go over your birth plans with her again. I really wanted my c-section and it was awful so I am crossing my fingers for you, yikes!!

Oh that sucks! You should stand up for yourself with that doc - no need to cut you open if it's unnecessary! My friend's acupuncturist told her that acupuncture that induce labor 50% of the time... Definitely would be worth it!

What the hell? That is the dumbest thing I've heard lately from an OB, well this week anyway. Last week my OB told me that its a good thing I quit pumping at 1 year because "they'(she couldnt tell me who they is) recommend only nursing for 6 months. I was 1cm dialated from 36-38 weeks. And my babe came on his own 2 days before he was due. No worries. She can't cut ya unless you consent. Sometimes I wonder how laypeople reading the internet, or even watching the news/reading the paper can have more up to date info than docs. Tons of talk lately about reducing sections hard to miss. As much as I hated my doula reminding me at the end of my pregnancy, the average pregnancy is 41 weeks.

That annoys me. A lot of women aren't dilated at 37 w. That shouldn't even be a discussion at this point. (((hugs)))

What?!?! That is ridiculous!! I didn't get cervix checks so there was no way of knowing, but my NSTs were totally uneventful and my doc kept insisting my little one would be late. I went into labor about 4 days after my 38-week NST so clearly he had no idea what he was talking about. LOTS can change in the coming weeks so try not to worry too much. But talking to your doc is probably a good idea, too. And like a PP said, the doc isn't even there until the very end!

I would totally try to talk to another OB. you need to feel comfortable with the plan, don't let them to stress you out! this is not the right time.
Fingers crossed you will find open ears.
Good luck, Girl! wishing you a great full-term ride!
